The village of Shiroka Laka is proclaimed architectural and folkloric reserve . It is known for its typical architectural style. The village is located 5 km away from Stoikite and 12 km away from Pamporovo. The frescoes in the church “Sveta Bogoroditsa” (Our Lady) were made by the brothers Zahari and Dimitar Zograf. Kapitan Petko Voyvoda – one of the most popular fighters for freedom – lived here. Zgurov Konak (the Zgurov's Residence) is an interesting architectural monument. The National School of Folklore Art is in Shiroka Laka.
In the first days of March the village celebrates the carnival called “Pesponedelnik”. The program of the carnival includes:
presentation of a typical local scene by amateurs;
show by the students of the NSFA;
mummers' dances: young men, unrecognizable in their terrifying fur costumes, perform ancient pagan dances under the accompaniment of bells hanging from their belts;
The bridges over the Shirokolashka River create a romantic atmosphere.
