The National Astronomical Observatory “Rozhen” is the largest active astrophysics complex on the Balkan Peninsula. It is located in a beautiful place on the mountain crest, near Mount Rozhen at of 1759 m ASL. Every year, it is visited by 10 000 people from the whole world. The observatory was built in 1979 and there is a weather station next to it.

A new telescope “Coronograph” will be installed soon to observe the corona of the sun.

Village of Shiroka Laka is announced as architectural and folklore reserve. The village is settlement 5 km away from Pamporovo and 5 km away from Stoikite.

These are seven cascaded landslide lakes at the foot of the mythical Rocks of Orpheus about 10 km to the west of the town of Smolyan. The largest and the deepest among them is the Bistroto Ezero (The Clear Lake).

Chudnite Mostove is one of the most interesting natural phenomena in the Rodopi Mountain. It is located about 5 km to the northwest of the village of Zabardo. The other name of the place is Erkupriya (from the Turk: er = earth, kupru = bridge). These are two huge rock bridges that appeared in the lands of the village of Zabardo as a result of an earthquake, which destroyed an old cavern. This is the oldest cave entrance in Bulgaria. Next to the second bridge one can see the entrance to the Ice Cavern in which ice does not melt even in the middle of the summer. Further is the entrance to the Big Cavern, which contains remains of antic earthenware dating back from the 6 th or 5 th century B.C.

The upper bridge is amazing by its stature. The vault is about 20 meters thick and the precipice below it is 45 meters deep. The bridge is 45 meters wide. An old path from the village of Orehovo to Zabardo passes over this bridge. The second bridge, which is about 200 meters away from the first one, looks rather like a 60 meters long tunnel. Next to the second bridge is the entrance to the Ice Cavern where ice does not melt even in the middle of the summer. There is a dirt road from Zabardo to the Chudnite Mostove. Nearby this natural phenomenon there are two mountain hostels called respectively “Chudnite Mostove” and “Skalnite Mostove”.

The Gorge of Trigrad is impressive by its dimensions as well as by its shape. The road from Devin to the village of Trigrad runs alongside the picturesque canyon. Remains and drawings of prehistoric men have been found in the caverns around it. Here is the cave called Dyavolsko Garlo (Devil's Throat) and a little bit to the west on the Trigrad Plateau is the Yagodinska Cave. There are many unknown and unexplored smaller caves around.
The entrance to the Dyavolsko Garlo is at the edge of the gorge on the side of Trigrad, below the road. The cave is supplied with electricity and adapted to be visited by tourists. One can see many beautiful cave formations. The Trigradska River crosses the cave and forms a waterfall and a small lake within it.
